The names of the surah Tabbat

Surah Al-Masad, in addition to its primary name, has the following names:

1 and 2. Abi Lahab and Lahab: Surah Al-Masad was revealed about Abu Lahab and his wife, who were bitter and staunch enemies of Islam. For this reason, it is named after them.

  1. Masad: “Masad” means rope, and it is the last word in Surah Al-Masad, hence the surah is also called “Masad.” The “masad” in this surah refers to the rope that Abu Lahab’s wife used to tie firewood and carry it on her back, with the end of the rope around her neck.
