The names of the verses

Many verses of the Holy Quran in various surahs have specific names, titles, or epithets, either mentioned in hadiths or popularized among people for certain reasons, some of which are well-documented and others not.

The origin of naming some of these verses lies in the narrations of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the pure Imams (peace be upon them). Others are named due to their thematic relevance to jurisprudence, theology, or history, the presence of significant and noteworthy words in them, or by taking a portion from the beginning of the verse (such as the verses “Wa in yakad” and “Amman yujib”).

Some of these verses include:

  • The Verse of the Throne (Ayat al-Kursi) (Quran 2:255);
  • The Verse of Light (Ayat al-Nur) (Quran 24:35);
