The teachings of Islam provide guidance to man in conducting the affairs of his life. It proposes to do so by education through ‘ilm or knowledge. The first Quranic verse to be revealed, ‘Read! Read, in the name of your Lord Who created’ has all the ramifications pointing to the very significance of knowledge, an obvious result of the act of reading.
